Living Things

Sometimes I hear a song and for a few moments experience the inspirational, intoxication that is music.

It never ceases to amaze me that something as simple as sound waves moving at varying frequencies can have such a powerful effect on something as complex as a human being.

At times the sound can pacify, bringing us peace or showing us the shadows of what once might have been memories of a happy time. It can be vague. It can be soft.

But other times, it is perfectly orchestrated chaos, driving our minds and hearts into euphoric madness. Harsh, and brutal but still retaining beauty.  There’s a part of you that only comes alive when you’re submersed in sound.

If you don’t believe me, I have a challenge for you. Find an album that you enjoy, go someplace where you can be alone with the music, and play it loud enough that it drowns out the rest of the world. Then wait and see what happens to you. Your thoughts, your attitude, they will adjust to the music. I should say they will succumb to the music. And then you will notice that once you have given way to the creativity around you, the creativity within you will show it’s face.

Run with it. See what kind of rabbit trails the creativity finds, and follow it. You might get nowhere, but you might learn a thing or two about yourself.

It may take a couple different tries with a couple albums, for me “Living Things” by Linkin Park has worked so far without fail.

I may be crazy, and it might be the music talking, but music just might be one of the most spiritual aspects of life.

What do you think?
